What is the best mustard for hot dogs and burgers?
Pick by how much kick you want. Hot & Spicy for heat, Original Sweet & Spicy if you like it sweet, and Horseradish for a little bite without much heat. All three are 9oz jars from our family in St. Charles, MO.
The Usual
Hamburgers, hot dogs and brats
The most common place for our mustard is on a hamburger, a bratwurst or a hot dog. That is where our own notes on using it start.
We make three flavors so there is one for however you like your hot dog. Set all three out next to the grill and let everybody pick. If you have brats on too, here is which jar goes on which brat.
Which Jar for Which
Our suggestions
Hot & Spicy
$9.00 for a 9oz jar
A plain hot dog or a plain burger. Hot and sweet, with about the heat of a jalapeño or cayenne pepper, so there is a kick in every bite.
Original Sweet & Spicy
$9.00 for a 9oz jar
A hot dog with onions or relish, or a burger for the kids. Creamy and sweet with a little spice. This is the 1935 family recipe.
Horseradish
$9.00 for a 9oz jar
A cheeseburger. A sweet base with a mild to medium bite that won't wipe out your sinuses. Our best seller.
The Rest of the Cookout
Where else the jars end up
For the sides, use our mustard in place of mayonnaise in potato salad, or in the filling for deviled eggs.
If the smoker is going too, our smoked pulled pork uses a whole jar of Original Sweet & Spicy as the binder.
Common Questions
About mustard on hot dogs and burgers
What is the best mustard for hot dogs?
Pick by how much kick you want. Hot & Spicy has about the heat of a jalapeño or cayenne pepper, Original Sweet & Spicy is creamy and sweet, and Horseradish has a little bite without much heat. All three are made for exactly this.
What kind of mustard goes on a burger?
Any of our three. Our suggestion is Horseradish on a cheeseburger and Hot & Spicy on a plain one. At a cookout, put all three out and let everybody pick.
Is sweet mustard good on a hot dog?
Yes. Original Sweet & Spicy is sweet with a little spice, and it sits well on a hot dog with onions or relish.
Can I try them before I buy a jar?
Yes. We give free tastings at every live event around St. Charles, the St. Louis metro and Metro East. The events page has where we will be next.
